Are the New York Knicks Mocking and Clowning Black Culture with this Half Time Show?

Knicks recent half time show consisting of two white kids “New York” racing, while wearing a tall white tee, baggy jeans, Timberland boots, and a hat turned backwards, has gone viral. Some people feel it was a mockery of black culture.

The style of wearing a tall white tee, baggy jeans, Timberland boots, and hat turned backwards, was a staple among the black community in New York throughout recent history. It was a style seen as a part of black culture in the urban community.

In a sense by having two kids dress in these clothes, and have them run like clowns for the world to see, you are portraying the image of how you feel about about the community from which said fashion started. You are mocking part of a culture on a national scale for the world to see. Also, you are ingraining an image that portrays a false narrative to the minds of kids across the world. Take a look at some of the reactions from twitter.

While it is highly possible that New York Knicks meant nothing of it, the fact that the question even arises should of made it a bad choice. I doubt we will see Knicks do a halftime show like this again, then again this is the Knicks we’re talking about.
