A purple sky was seen over Japan today, an omen for something bad coming according to legends. This led to the hashtag “Pray For Japan” going viral on social media. Purple Skies have been seen as bad omen for ages. Even in the older anime cartoons, Purple Skies were used to symbolize something bad coming in the episode.

Dragonball Z for example used the Purple Sky imagery as the backdrop for dire situations as you can see above. Hopefully the Purple Sky ends up meaning nothing, and the hashtag is just a social media moment. In the meantime #PrayForJapan
