Are Temu Developers Hacking Bank Accounts? Temu of Identity Theft Scam Conspiracy Theory Trends After Viral TikTok Videos
Temu, a popular online shopping app, has been accused of hacking the bank accounts of some of its users, especially those who are popular influencers on TikTok. The conspiracy theory about Temu’s identity theft scam has gone viral on the social media platform, after several TikTokers posted videos claiming that they had lost money, or had their identity stolen after using the app.
The Evidence Behind the Temu Identity Theft Scam Conspiracy Theory
The conspiracy theory started when TikTok user @pheveyaa posted a video claiming that Temu sold her bank account details on the black market. She said that over a period of two months, she had continuous charges taken out of her bank account, without her knowledge or consent. She said that she didn’t even notice these charges coming out of her account, because they were minuscule amounts each time, such as $1.
She said that when the bank first sent her an automatic notification about the suspicious charges, she thought it was a glitch, until the day her card was declined while shopping. When she contacted the bank about her card, she learned that her bank account was hacked. @pheveyaa boldly stated that people should not put their bank information on the app.
Another TikToker named @shyshy011 also posted a video claiming that $500 was stolen from her account after shopping using Temu. Similar to other complaints on TikTok, she also alleged that the hackers took the money out of her account in small amounts, so she wouldn’t notice.
Another popular TikToker named @dimplesqueennini claimed that her identity was stolen one week after using the Temu app to make purchases. She said that after noticing the unknown charges on her credit card, she looked at her statements and contacted American Express. She even claims that the hackers attached a number to the unknown charges, hoping that she would contact them instead of American Express, so they could get even more of her information.
Is There Any Truth to the Temu Scam Conspiracy Theory?
It is possible that these cases are a coincidence and not related to Temu, because the TikTokers didn’t give details about other places they used their bank or credit cards within the same time span they shopped on Temu. It is also possible that they were victims of phishing scams or malware attacks that compromised their devices or accounts. However, there is no definitive proof to deny their claims, so should they be given the benefit of the doubt, or taken with a grain of salt?
Temu has not issued any official statement or response to the allegations, which has fueled more speculation and distrust among its users. Some users have defended Temu, and said that they have never had any problems with the app, while others have expressed their concerns and doubts.
