Josh Giddey, the 21-year-old Australian basketball star who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, is facing a major scandal after a photo and videos of him with an alleged underage girl surfaced online. The girl who is allegedly around 15 years old, is rumored to have posted a picture of herself with a shirtless Josh Giddey on Snapchat, with a caption that many people found alarming. In addition there is an alleged video floating around of the two. Now people on social media are calling Josh Giddey a pedophile, although nothing is 100% proven yet.

The photo quickly went viral and sparked outrage among fans and critics, who accused Giddey of statutory rape and compared him to Karl Malone, the former NBA player who allegedly got an underage woman pregnant way back in the day. Somehow Malone never got in trouble for it, and it happened while he was in college.

As the snapchat photo continued going viral, an Instagram account called “ocbeers_” began to trend, because it had many other alleged pictures of Josh Giddey and the alleged underage woman spending time together. Many NBA fans saw this as proof of a romantic relationship between him and the girl, but again nothing is confirmed.

As if the situation couldn’t get any worse, the plot would thicken even more, further complicating the young NBA star’s future. Many YouTube videos are alleging the underage girl’s name is Livv Cook, but those are just unconfirmed rumors.

In their culture it might not be perceived the same way it is in America when a 21 year old man is seen with a 16 year old girl, assuming that she is 16 years old. It should be noted that her age has not been confirmed yet.

In Oklahoma the age of consent is also 16 years old, but there’s catch that makes if much different. Although the legal age of consent is 16 years old, there has to be an age difference no more than 2 years between the 16 year old, and the other partner. Josh Giddey is currently 5 years older than someone who is 16 years old.

If the girl allegedly named Livv Cook is 15 years old, then that would make their relationship illegal. If she is really 16 years old, then their relationship could still be considered illegal by the law.

In the same breath, if they go the second route there’s no doubt they will receive criticism as some people on social media will possibly claim they are allowing an alleged pedophile to play basketball, the same way they criticize the NBA for allowing Miles Bridges to play.

If going by virtues of fairness from a business standpoint, the NBA will most likely conduct an investigation before making any type of decision.
