In a viral video that has been making rounds on social media, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers was seen having a friendly conversation with Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards on the sideline during their game on Tuesday. However, what made the video hilarious and awkward was that Doc’s son Austin Rivers, who plays for the Timberwolves, was standing right next to them and was completely ignored by his father, or so it seems.
The video showed Doc Rivers, who was mic’d up for the game, asking Edwards what play the Timberwolves were going to run after a timeout. Edwards replied with a smile, “Don’t double me.” Doc then joked that he knew they were going to run a play for him and praised his talent. All this while Austin Rivers was listening to their exchange, but did not get any acknowledgment from his dad.
Social Media Reacts to Doc Rivers Ignoring His Son Austin Rivers while Talking to Anthony Edwards
The video quickly went viral on Twitter and other platforms, with many users roasting Austin Rivers with jokes about his dad being ashamed of him or preferring Edwards over him. It is possible that Doc Rivers did not intentionally ignore his son in the video, and was just focused on having some fun with Edwards, who is one of the most exciting young players in the league. Nevertheless the reactions are hilarious.
