What would you do if bear chased you down during a skiing trip? This is what people were thinking as onlookers watched a black bear chasing a skier down a mountain in a video going viral.
The average bear can reach speeds of up to 25 mph, while a skier going downhill can reach speeds of up to 95 mph. Based on those stats the skier was pretty safe from being caught by the bear, unless he crashed. In the footage the skier attempts going in an “S” pattern in hopes of confusing the bear, because he seemed to be losing speed.

Black bears usually avoid human contact, so this video is actually a very rare sight. In fact statistically speaking only one black bear out of 1 million will attack a human in predatory manner. Bear attacks only happen about once per year across the entire North America.
This black bear chasing a skier down a mountain must of been having a very bad day. If the skier survived he should definitely thinking about playing the lotto, because this was literally a 1 in a million occurrence.
