Why Did a Mob of Chicago Black Teens Jump a White Woman in Front a Doorstep on 129 North Wabash?

A shocking video that has gone viral on social media shows a large group of black teenagers jumping and beating a white woman in the doorway of 129 North Wabash in downtown Chicago. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night, amid widespread disturbances and violence involving hundreds of teens who flooded the streets.

Why Did the Group of Black People Beat Up the White Woman in Chicago?

The video captioned “Yay we get active”, which has been viewed millions of times, shows the woman trying to escape from the mob of black teens as they surround her before unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks. There were so many people beating the woman at the same time that she couldn’t even be seen in the video once the violence erupted. The teens can be heard laughing and cheering as they assault the woman. The whole scene was very sad and disturbing to watch.

There isn’t much information about what led to the attack, but around social media you’ll see there are many people speculating that the woman must have said something racist to provoke the mob causing them to retaliate. However, although the theory seems plausible, at the moment there is no proof of what really happened prior to situation escalating. The condition of the woman is unknown, but judging from footage she can’t be in good shape.

Violent crimes are a serious problem in the Chicago area, affecting the lives and safety of many residents. As you may or not know the city has been nicknamed “Chiraq” due to how dangerous it is. According to the Chicago Police Department, there were 2,832 shootings and 800 homicides in 2021, a 20% and 3.2% increase respectively from 2020.

The city also recorded a 1.5% rise in overall violent crime and a 23% surge in robberies. Compared to the national median of 3.95 violent crimes per 1,000 residents, Chicago had a rate of 8.7 in 2021. These statistics show that Chicago is one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S., and that more efforts are needed to prevent and reduce violence.

Regardless of what the woman may or may not have said, that amount of people jumping one person was uncalled for, and very dangerous. Hopefully the woman survived, and makes a full recovery. There are better ways to handle situations like that. It may sound cliché, but violence is never the answer to any situation.
