Asian hate crimes are on the rise in recent weeks, and the sad trend continued in California. A 19 year old Bay Area Asian teen named Jessica Dimalanta was shot in the eye while leaving a sideshow in San Francisco. The details of incident a horrifying.
The Sad Story of the Jessica Dimalanta Shooting
On March 21 Jessica Dimalanta was at a car stunt sideshow with three other friends when police shutdown the event due to it blocking traffic with the large crowd. Her and three friends left to attend another sideshow, when the unthinkable happened. While they were stopped at a red light on Quint St and Oakdale Ave multiple people came out the car in front of them then opened fired on their vehicle. One of the bullets went through Jessica Dimalanta’s eye. One other person in the car was also hit, and her other two friends were unharmed.
The suspects have still not been caught.

At the moment Jessica Dimalanta is still in the hospital, and has undergone surgery to have the bullet removed from her eye socket. However, there are still bullet fragments scattered within her face that doctors can’t remove without more surgery. Reports say she is in extreme pain whenever she tries to talk or eat.
With medical bills rising the uncle of Jessica Dimalanta named Dexter Martin started a GoFundMe to raise funds for her hospital stay. At the moment it was accrued over $57,000 from almost 2,000 donors. The original goal was $10,000, so they have already exceeded that amount by almost 6 times. Some anonymous donors have given as much as $1,000 and more.

This shooting will change Jessica Dimalanta’s life forever. Along with mental trauma, she will never have vision in her right eye again.
It’s really sad the things people are doing to other people in this world only because of what race they are. When will this madness end?
