Halle Berry, the Oscar-winning actress and former Bond girl, has accused Drake, the Grammy-winning rapper and singer, of using her photo without her permission on his new single. According to Berry, Drake reached out to her asking to use a picture of her covered in slime from an old Nickelodeon show on his new single. Berry claims that she told Drake no, but he still used the picture.
Did Drake Give Halle Berry a Non Verbal “F**k You”?
In a viral Instagram comment responding to someone who defended Drake saying that he could have gotten permission from Getty Images since they owned the photo, Halle Berry wrote “Cause he asked me, and I said NO that’s why. Why ask if you intend to do what you want to do! That was the f* you to me. Not cool You get it”.
She was responding to a Drake fan who wrote, “While I do understand your side, that photo is owned by Getty Images. So I’m sure he got their permission, and paid the fee. Why you mad?”.
As you’ll see below Halle Berry put an emphasis on the word “no” by capitalizing both letters, which means she must have been very distraught after seeing her photo was used anyway.
Based on what she said, it seems as if Drake gave Halle Berry a non verbal “f**k you” gesture with his actions of using her picture after she told him no, allegedly.
Drake has not yet responded to Berry’s accusation, or the criticism from the public. His new single, which features the controversial photo of Berry, is expected to be released soon. The photo shows Berry smiling and laughing as she is drenched in green slime during the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in 2002. The photo was taken by Kevin Winter, a photographer for Getty Images.
Will Halle Berry Fans Lead a Boycott Drake Movement?
Drake is facing backlash on social media for disrespecting Berry. Many fans and celebrities have expressed their support for Berry and their disappointment in Drake. Some have called Drake a “thief”, a “liar”, and a “disgrace”. Others have urged Drake to apologize to Berry, and remove the photo from his single. Some have even threatened to boycott Drake’s music until he does so.
Berry is not the first celebrity to have a problem with Drake using their image without their consent. About 6 years ago, Drake was sued by Jimmy Smith Jr., the estate of jazz musician Jimmy Smith, for using a sample of Smith’s voice on his song “Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2” without permission. The case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
Drake disrespecting Halle Berry in such a distasteful way is one of those things that most people couldn’t fathom becoming reality. There has to be more to the story right?
