Evanston’s city council voted 8-1 to budget $400,000 to black families who qualify. As result Evanston, Illinois will pay $25,000 to each family for reparations. The money can be used for home repairs or down payments on new property. When Slavery ended Black people were promised 400 acres of land each.

How Will the Evanston, Illnois Reparation Program Be Financed
Evanston will be able to pay reparations to Black residents with the help of two sources of revenue. The first would be from donations, and the second from Marijuana sales. The 3% sales tax will go directly towards the program. Theoretically speaking the more people smoke the more money this Illinois town will have for reparations for Black people who are direct descendants slaves. It’s rumored they will do DNA genetic testing to confirm who is eligible for the program.
An extra $25K to spend is going to change a lot of lives in Evanston.
