Man Catches Uber Driver Allegedly Trying to Rape Drunk Woman Then Lets Him Drive Off With Her in Viral Video

A shocking video that went viral on social media has sparked outrage and condemnation from users, activists, and authorities. The video, which was posted by a Twitter account called Insane Reality Leaks, showed a man confronting an Uber driver who was apparently trying to rape an unconscious woman in the backseat of his car.

The incident reportedly happened in an unidentified location where the driver’s wheel was on the right side, which could indicate it didn’t happen in America. The video shows a man approaching a car parked in front of his house at night, and recording himself asking the driver, “Yo, what are you doing?”. The driver, who has pants slightly down didn’t say anything in response, but quickly exited the backseat, pulled his pants up, then tried to get back in the driver seat and quickly close his door.

That’s where things got even more worrisome when the man recording allowed the Uber driver to drive off with the woman still in the backseat without even attempting to stop him. However, he did get a good view of his license plate in the footage, which could help authorities track him down now that the footage is viral.

Naturally people on social media have condemned both the Uber driver, and the man who recorded the footage. One can only hope that the Uber driver dropped the woman safely off after realizing he was caught on camera, but its tragic to know that he could have went to another location and attempted doing the same thing.

Sexual crimes against women who use Uber have been a serious concern for the ride-hailing platform and its users. According to Uber’s US Safety Reports, the company received 3,824 reports of sexual assault incidents involving riders and drivers in 2019 and 2020, down from 5,981 reports in 2017 and 2018. Of these, 388 were reports of rape, with women making up 81% of the victims. These incidents occurred in connection with 0.00002% of Uber’s total trips in the US.

Uber has taken several measures to improve the safety of its platform, such as continuous background checks on drivers, in-app emergency button, safety education for drivers and riders, and partnerships with sexual violence prevention organizations. However, some critics argue that Uber’s reporting and screening processes are still inadequate, and that the company should do more to prevent sexual crimes from happening in the first place.

The footage of the Uber driver trying to rape the drunk female is an example of how even with all the safety measures in place, there’s no way to really know what the person behind the wheel is capable of doing when they think no one is watching.

Prayers up for that woman who was in the backseat, hopefully nothing happened to her. This is why it’s always important to have a friend with you when you are very drunk, or just refrain from drinking all together.
