People Are Starting GoFundMe To Pay Back Fraudulent PPP Loans After Getting Caught By FEDS

In today’s world people start GoFundMe campaigns for all sorts of reasons, and now crimes have been added to the list. People are starting campaigns on GoFundMe to pay back PPP loans they acquired through scams after getting caught by the Feds. On the website countless people have been seen begging people donate money to their GoFundMe so they can pay off fraudulent PPP loans and avoid going to jail.

What is a PPP Loan?

A PPP loan stands for the Paycheck Protection Program established by Federal Government in 2020 to help businesses strangled by the Coronavirus pandemic. The government set $953 Billion aside to support this part of the CARES act. What people learned is that you could easily scam the government by setting up fake businesses with fake workers to receive a massive paycheck through the PPP loan program. However, months later they also learned that the FEDS are always watching.

Now people who scammed the Federal Government have to pay back the money or face jailtime, which has led to the recent surge of fraudulent PPP Loan GoFundMe campaigns.

The most surprising thing about people starting GoFundMe campaigns to pay back fraudulent PPP loans is that there are people actually donating to some of these. Less surprising is that GoFundMe allows these type of campaigns, but technically nothing about them is against their policies in theory.

Moral of the story is never try to scam the government, especially when money is involved.
