Viral Photo Carnival Magic Cruise Ship Caught in Massive Storm Fuels ‘Reason You Shouldn’t Go on Cruises’ Reactions
Carnival Magic is a cruise ship that sails to the Eastern Caribbean from Miami, Florida. It is one of the largest and most modern ships in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, with a capacity of 3,690 passengers and 1,367 crew members. It features a variety of amenities and activities, such as a water park, a ropes course, a spa, a pub, and several dining options.
However, not everything is magical on Carnival Magic. Recently, a photo of the ship caught in the middle of a massive storm has gone viral on social media, sparking fear and criticism among the public. The photo, which was posted on Facebook, shows the ship tilted at a steep angle, with huge waves crashing against its side.
The caption reads: “I can’t imagine what they are in for tonight rock and rolling”.
The photo has been shared thousands of times, with many comments expressing sympathy for the passengers and crew, as well as disdain for the cruise industry. Some have dubbed the photo as another reason why you shouldn’t go on cruises.

How Do Cruise Ships Protect Passengers During Storms?
The photo has raised he question of how dangerous is it to be on a cruise ship in a storm? And how do cruise ships stay stable in such conditions? According to experts, cruise ships are designed and equipped with technologies that help them withstand rough weather and maintain stability.
Some of these technologies include asymmetrical hull designs that reduce the drag and resistance of the water, and improve the maneuverability and speed of the ship.
In addition some have Fins or rotors that extend from the ship’s hull and counteract the rolling motion caused by wind or waves. These stabilizers are controlled by computer systems that sense the ship’s angle and velocity, and adjust the fins accordingly.
Cruise ships also have ballast tanks that store water, and can be filled or emptied to change the weight and balance of the ship. These tanks can also be used to pump water from one side of the ship to the other, to compensate for the shifting of the center of buoyancy.
There’s also the anti-rolling tanks that work above the water line and use pumps or air pressure to control the motion of water inside the tanks. These tanks synchronize the water flow with the ship’s roll, and reduce the overall motion.
These technologies, along with the skill and experience of the captain and crew, can help cruise ships navigate safely through storms and minimize the discomfort and risk for the passengers and crew.
However, no technology is perfect, and there may be situations where the ship’s stability is compromised, such as in the case of collision, grounding, or damage. In such cases, the ship’s safety systems, such as watertight doors, alarms, and evacuation procedures, are activated to ensure the survival and rescue of the people on board.
While the photo of the Carnival Magic Cruise ship caught in the storm looks scary, the passengers on board probably didn’t feel much shaking, because those vessels are truly built tough.
