We’ve all heard horror stories about the giant rats that wreak havoc around NYC. However, you’ve probably never seen a horror story like what was captured in a viral TikTok video recorded by a New York resident.
Viral TikTok Video Shows New York Rat Popping out Toilet Bowl in Someone’s Home
In the footage posted by TikTok user “whatisnewyorkofficial” a large NY rat can be seen swimming inside a toilet bowl in a bathroom. In the caption of the video the TikTok user claims the rat popped out the toilet bowl presumably by climbing through the pipe.
While that may seem unbelievable, it’s actually very possible for a rat to climb through the large pipes that go into toilet systems. Usually the constant flushing of water deters rats from entering homes through a toilet, but in case where a toilet isn’t used much or the rat is desperate for food, a rat can use that as an access point into a home.
During the COVID-19 pandemic you probably heard stories about how New York rats became more aggressive in their search for food as scraps on the street dwindled due to lockdowns. That aggression may have motivated this rat to climb up the toilet pipe even if people were constantly flushing their waste down it.
A rat popping out a toilet bowl is a sure fire way to ruin a good day. Imagine that being the first thing you see when you go to use the bathroom in the morning. Talk about a traumatizing experience.
