A few days ago the New Orleans Pelicans faced off against the Dallas Mavericks in what seem a run of the mill regular season game. The Pelicans won 113-106, but that was not the most memorable part of the night. Star forward Brandon Ingram suffered an injury that kept him out of the second half of the game, but cameras caught him having a very bizarre moment with teammate Jose Alvarado on the bench.
Cameras Catch Brandon Ingram Biting Jose Alvarado on Live TV
With seconds left in the game, cameras turned to Ingram and Alvarado, who has been out since late February with a stress reaction in his right tibia. The two players seemed to be joking around and celebrating something, as Ingram did a shimmy and leaned over to Alvarado. Thing got strange when Ingram proceeded to bite Alvarado’s shoulder area, apparently hard enough to cause pain. Alvarado pushed him away and grimaced, while Ingram smiled sheepishly.
The video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, with many fans and commentators wondering what was going on between the two teammates. Some speculated that it was a sign of affection or camaraderie, while others joked that Ingram was hungry or trying to emulate Luis Suarez, the soccer player who famously bit opponents on three occasions. Some people also compared it to Mike Tyson biting Evander Holyfield’s ear.
The bite may have been harmless and playful, but it was certainly one of the most bizarre moments in NBA history. It also raised some questions about Ingram’s mental state and health after his injury. Hopefully, both players will recover soon and continue to play well for their team.
