Balenciaga may have gentrified clothing in a way most people thought would never happen. You know you see people in the hood or in jail sometimes sagging their sweatpants with their underwear or boxers showing? Well people have deemed Balenciaga’s sweatpants racist for promoting this look to rich people, which would essentially be gentrification in the fashion sense.
What is the Name and Price of Balenciaga’s Racist Sweatpants
The new Balenciaga sweatpants with sagging built in are called “Trompe l’oeil track trousers”, and cost $1190 before tax. The phrase “Trompe l’oeil” means optical illusion in French.
In this case Balenciaga’s racist sweatpants sagging even when they are pulled up is the optical illusion.
The Balenciaga sweatpants have boxers stitched to the waistband, which creates the permanent sagging look. Many people this is a mockery of something associated with a segment of black culture.

Here’s a video someone posted on social media calling Balenciaga‘s sweatpants racist for having sagging built in when they came across a pair at a store.

This is the epitome of gentrified fashion. Would you pay over $1,000 to have a permanent sag? Who was supposed to be the target demographic for a design like that? Did they think black people would want to buy sweatpants with sagging built in?
Balenciaga’s PR team should have known that people would find these sweatpants offensive, but maybe that’s the reason they released them. Controversy sells well, and maybe they know that.
