Claressa Shields Accuses Arthur and His Coach Derrick Santos of Removing Padding From His Gloves Before She Got Knocked Out During Sparring Session
Claressa Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and world champion in three weight classes, has accused a boxer named Arthur and his trainer Derrick Santos of removing padding from his gloves before he sparred with her during training. Shields made the allegation after a footage of her getting knocked out by Arthur during a sparring session went viral on the internet.
Why Would Arthur and Coach Derrick Santos Cheat to Knockout Claressa Shields During a Sparring Session by Using Gloves with No Padding?
Shields, who is widely regarded as one of the best female boxers of all time, posted a tweet on Sunday, saying that she had no problem getting caught in sparring, as it happens and she spars mostly with men. However, she claimed that she embarrassed Arthur and Santos in a previous sparring session, and they resorted to cheating in their next sparring session.
“I have no problem getting caught in sparring it happens and I Sparr majority Men! But this dude Arthur and his coach Derrick santos were embarrassed and next time we sparred he purposely wore gloves with no little to no padding, I can’t make this up. I couldn’t believe it,” Shields wrote.
If what she’s saying is true, is just goes to show how tough she is, because it would mean she has men cheating to defeat her in the boxing ring.
Shields’ accusation has sparked outrage and disbelief among boxing fans, who have called for an investigation and possible criminal charges against Arthur and Santos if her claim is true, as you can see in the tweet above. Some have also questioned the credibility and ethics of the gym where the sparring took place, as well as the safety and integrity of the sport of boxing.
Shields is known for her outspokenness and activism on various social issues, such as gender equality, racial justice, and mental health. She has also been vocal about the challenges and discrimination that she has faced as a female boxer, especially in terms of pay and recognition. She has advocated for more opportunities and exposure for women in boxing, as well as more respect and appreciation for their skills and achievements.
It would be too sad, if Arthur and Derrick Santos really removed padding from those boxing gloves, because that could mean they were intent on trying to hurt her in way that could possibly alter someone’s career. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, is Shields telling the truth, or copping pleas for getting dropped?
