Family photos are usually supposed to be harmless, but in some countries it can lead to your life being derailed. Rosemond Brown aka Akuapem Poloo posted a strange photo on social media to celebrate her son’s 7th birthday. In the video Rosemond Brown is nude as she kneels in front of her son who is wearing underwear. Shortly after the photo went viral Ghana police charged Akuapem Poloo with domestic violence and promoting obscene material. As you can tell laws around what you can post on social media are much stricter Ghana apparently.
At the time the charges were given back in April, Judge Christiana Cann insinuated they would use Rosemond Brown as an example by giving a harsh sentence in hopes of deterring others in Ghana from posting similar style pictures. Akuapem Poloo tried to appeal the charges, but recently learned there was no way to avoid inevitable jail time.
Recently it was announced that High Court Justice Ruby Aryeetey deemed Judge Christiana Cann’s sentence and charges as appropriate, dismissing Rosemond Brown’s appeal. Many American celebrities spoke out in support of Akuapem Poloo citing how many Americans take similar photos with their kids. However, cultures are different, so an argument like that wouldn’t apply to this situation.

In response to receiving a prison sentence for the nude photo with her 7 year old son, Akuapem Poloo sent out a heartbreaking message on social media that was directed towards her child. She basically told her son that she will be gone for a long time saying,
“Son I love you, and God is with you always. Be good until Mommy comes back. God is in control always.”
