Terence Crawford and Jermell Charlo have been trading verbal jabs for a while, but the tension between them escalated after Crawford’s stunning victory over Errol Spence Jr. Crawford became the undisputed welterweight champion by stopping Spence in brutal fashion, but Charlo was not impressed by his dominant performance. In fact, it appears that Jermell Charlo thinks Terrence Crawford cheated during that fight.
Was Terence Crawford Using Illegal Punches on Errol Spence?
In a recent interview, Charlo was asked if there was anything that really stood out to him about the fight. Charlo said that he felt that Spence just had an off night, then went a step further with a bold allegation. Jermell Charlo claimed that Terence Crawford was using illegal behind the head punches on Errol Spence. Essentially he’s insinuating that Terrence Crawford cheated to win.
In the video Charlo says, “I don’t know why any of ya’ll talking about all those behind the head shots, that you didn’t mention. I saw a bunch of behind the head shots”. Does he have a point?
Charlo, who is the undisputed junior middleweight champion, is moving up to challenge Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion. He said that he is not afraid of anyone, and that he wants to fight the best in the sport. Ironically, Canelo was caught in a cheating scandal way back in the day, but it ended up being food related, allegedly.
The bad blood between Crawford and Charlo is real, and their potential fight would be one of the biggest in boxing history. Both men are undisputed champions who have proven themselves against the best in their divisions. Both men are confident, aggressive, and hungry for more glory.
