Draymond Green’s Reasons For Not Regretting Choking Rudy Gobert Has NBA Fans Upset and Confused
Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors’ star forward, has stirred up controversy once again with his comments on his recent suspension for choking Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz’s center. Green, who was suspended for five games without pay for his “unsportsmanlike and dangerous” conduct, said in his first press conference since the incident that he does not regret his actions and that he would always defend his teammates.
Why Doesn’t Draymond Green Regret Choking Rudy Gobert?
During the press conference Draymond Green got introspective with the reporters as he said, “I don’t live my life with regrets. Like I said before, I will come to a teammate’s defense anytime, I’m in a position to come to their defense. That’s what a team is, you stick together through the good and the bad, and I take that to heart. I take pride in being a good teammate”.
Green’s remarks have sparked a backlash on social media, where many people have expressed their shock and dismay at his lack of remorse and accountability.
Many people have pointed out that Gobert was not the aggressor in the situation, but rather a peacemaker who was trying to separate Green’s teammate Klay Thompson and the Timberwolves’ Jaden McDaniels, who had gotten into a scuffle. Green, however, barged in and put Gobert in a headlock, refusing to let go for several seconds.
Many people on social media have also criticized Green for promoting the message of living life without regrets, arguing that regret is an important part of life that helps people improve as a person.
They contend that living life without regret is like living without holding oneself accountable for one’s actions, and that Green should acknowledge and apologize for his mistake.
Moreover, many people on social media have questioned Green’s claim of being a good teammate, citing his history of unsportsmanlike acts and altercations with his own teammates.
They point to how he knocked out Jordan Poole last season, and also had the infamous altercation with Kevin Durant where he told him “We don’t need you, we won without you”, all because Durant was angry that Green didn’t pass the ball on a final shot.
Many people on social media now think there is no hope for Green, and that another controversial incident is inevitable to happen. They wonder how the Warriors’ culture and chemistry will be affected by Green’s behavior, and how the NBA will handle such situations in the future.
