Hashtag #GoFraudMe (GoFraudMe) Goes Viral After GoFundMe Withholds Funds From ‘Freedom Convoy’ Truckers Anti-vaxxer Protesters
GoFundMe is under major scrutiny after they made a bold move on a massive GoFundMe campaign that was supporting the Freedom Convoy Truckers in Canada. The large group of anti-vaxxers are protesting against Canada’s over bearing vaccine mandates in hopes of securing medical freedom. However, the protests have caused major issues in Canada as they continue to block of major roads in places like Ottawa. Now GoFundMe took a stance, and is now being dubbed “GoFraudMe” for their sketchy tactics involved.
Hashtag #GoFraudMe (GoFraudMe) Goes Viral After GoFundMe Withholds Funds From ‘Freedom Convoy’ Anti-vaxxer Protesters
The GoFundMe campaign for Freedom Convoy Truckers anti-vaxxers had raised around $10 Million before it was shut down today. At first GoFundMe said it would withhold all the funds, not even attempting to return the money to people who donated. Naturally this lead to outrage on social media, which made the hashtag #GoFraudMe (GoFraudMe) start trending worldwide.
People around the world began citing examples of incidents where GoFundMe supported criminals and violent people by never taking down campaigns that were raising money for them. Some of the incidents people highlighted definitely made GoFundMe’s decision on the Freedom Convoy Truckers’ campaign seem hypocritical. One example that stood out was person alleging GoFundMe is supporting Antifa member Alissa Azar despite the fact she was convicted of a felony, and allegedly attacked people on video. Take a look.
Some people were suggesting that people do a charge back to get their money back from cancelled Freedom Convoy GoFundMe campaign.
GoFundMe Backtracks on Withholding Funds From Freedom Convoy Truckers’ GoFundMe Campaign After ‘GoFraudMe’ Hashtag Goes Viral
With the massive amount of backlash GoFundMe cancelling the Freedom Convoy Truckers’ campaign caused, they quickly reversed course on their decision to withhold the funds. In the process they made themselves look even more guilty, which gave even more precedence to the Hashtag #GoFraudMe going viral. As you will see below it was only after the backlash that GoFundMe decided to refund people who donated to the Freedom Convoy fundraiser.
The PR disaster GoFundMe is experiencing from their decision on the Freedom Convoy in Canada could have long term ramifications. Contrary to popular belief majority of people support what the Freedom Truckers are trying to do by protesting against vaccine mandates. However, it’s also understandable how some people are not happy about their protests obstructing their day to day lives by blocking major roads they need to go places.
At the very least it’s great that GoFundMe decided to refund people who donated to the Freedom Convoy cause, but it’s sad it took massive backlash before they made that decision. That definitely seems a bit fraudulent all things considered.
