Florence Pugh is one of the most talented and popular young actresses in Hollywood today. She has starred in critically acclaimed films such as Midsommar, Little Women, Black Widow and A Good Person. She has also been nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA for her performance as Amy March in Little Women.
Recently Pugh’s personal life has also been a subject of interest and controversy for many people, especially her relationship with actor and director Zach Braff, who is 20 years older than her. The couple dated from 2019 to 2022, but faced a lot of criticism and backlash online for their age gap. Pugh defended their relationship several times on social media, saying that it was nobody’s business who she loved.
Did Florence Pugh Date Zach Braff Because He Looks Like Her Dad?
Although they broke up in August 2022, a conspiracy theory began trending on the internet again that claimed that Pugh dated Braff because he looks like her dad, Clinton Pugh. This theory was based on some videos and photos that compared Braff’s appearance to Clinton’s, and pointed out their similarities in facial features, hair color and style.
Clinton Pugh is a restaurateur who owns a chain of restaurants in the UK. He is married to Deborah Pugh, a dancer and dance teacher. They have four children: Toby Sebastian, Arabella Gibbins, Rafaela “Raffie” Pugh and Florence Pugh. Clinton has also been involved in some political activism against low traffic neighborhoods (LTNs) in Oxfordshire.
The conspiracy theory that suggested that Florence had a subconscious attraction to Braff because he resembled her father was widely circulated on social media platforms such as TikTok and Twitter. Some users even called it “creepy” or “disturbing”. However, there is no concrete evidence or proof to support this theory, nor any indication that Florence or Braff were aware of it or commented on it. At the same time it’s hard to believe that someone wouldn’t notice if their significant other looks exactly like one of their parents.

Was Florence Pugh’s Relationship with Zach Braff the Result of Oedipus Complex?
The theory seems to be based on a psychological concept called the Oedipus complex, which was proposed by Sigmund Freud. According to Freud, the Oedipus complex is a stage of psychosexual development where a son or daughter develops an unconscious desire for their opposite-$ex parent, and views their same-$ex parent as a rival. However, this concept has been widely criticized and challenged by modern psychologists who argue that it is not universal or scientifically valid.
It seems that theory of unconscious desire has conspiracy theorists convinced that Florence Pugh was attracted to Zach Braff due to his resemblance to her dad, possibly without even realizing that he looks similar. People who discredit the theory believe it is based on superficial similarities and outdated psychoanalytic ideas that do not reflect the reality or complexity of human relationships, or emotions.
What do you think, is it a bit weird how much they resemble each other?
