Karen Rogers, a meteorologist from Philadelphia, recently found herself in hot water after making an innocent comment during a live news broadcast on ABC 6. During a discussion with her colleagues, Karen made a reference to “double fisting” in relation to her coworker Jessica, which was interpreted by viewers in a completely different way.
The comment in question was made during a segment where Karen and her team were discussing holding heavy items. Karen said, “And to another woman who likes to be double fisted in a different way, I think Jess.” While this may seem like an innocent comment to some, it was quickly picked up by viewers who took it as an intimate reference.
After the broadcast, Karen’s colleague Jessica was quick to clear the air, stating that Karen was actually referring to holding two beers at once, and not anything of a intimate nature. “She means beer, she means beer… Guys, she means beer, don’t put me on YouTube! My God” Jessica said. Ironically now she finds herself as a YouTube sensation since the situation is trending nationwide.
Despite the clarification, the comment quickly went viral on social media, with many viewers expressing shock, outrage, or humorous pleasure at what they believed to be a crude and inappropriate comment. Karen, for her part, was stunned by the reaction, since she seemed to have no idea what “double fisting” meant in an intimate context, or maybe she did and was just trolling. Her significant other was probably proud that she didn’t know.

While it’s easy to see why some viewers might be offended by Karen’s comment, it’s also important to remember that the context in which it was made plays a major role in how it should be interpreted. In this case, it’s clear that Karen was not trying to make any kind of inappropriate reference, and that her comment was simply a joke that was taken out of context by the general public. She did a poor job of wording it in a manner that would be easier to understand though.
At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that mistakes can happen, and that we should all strive to give people the benefit of the doubt before rushing to judgment. While Karen’s comment may have been poorly worded, it’s clear that she did not intend to offend anyone, and that she was simply trying to make a light-hearted comment during a live news broadcast. Jessica probably won’t forget what happened for a long time though.
