The case of Brittney Griner’s detention in Russia is a story that has rocked of all America. Since the date of her arrest she’s been held there for around 130 days, which most people feel is inhumane. Sadly there has been no good news regarding her situation, and the United States and Joe Biden have seemed very unconcerned about helping her. A new photo shows that she may be completely mentally broken by the dire situation.
As you probably know Russian police caught Brittney Griner with vape cartridges in her luggage when she arrived at Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow. Their reports state that Brittney Griner had weed in the vape cartridges in the form of hashish oil. Hash oil is a oleoresin created after extraction from marijuana. It is an extremely concentrated substance containing tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabidiol, and other cannabinoids. Russia has very strict drug laws regarding marijuana, and she probably wasn’t aware of that before boarding a plane with the substance. She’s facing 10 years in prison if convicted.

After almost 4 months Russia finally announced that Brittney Griner’s trial will start on July 1. According to Russia’s drug laws possession of less than 6 grams of marijuana is considered an “administrative offense”, which can carry a hefty fine or up to 15 days in jail. Possession of more than 6 grams of marijuana is a criminal offense that can result in 3 years or more in prison. As aforementioned Brittney Griner is facing 10 years, which could mean she had more than 6 grams unless the fact that she brought the marijuana through their border has upgraded her charges. Brittney Griner’s eyes in a photo showing her walking into a recent court hearing has left social media even more worried about her mental well being.
One can only imagine what was going through her mind when Brittney Griner’s eyes looked like she just saw a ghost. 4 months ago she was living on top of the world as one of the best WNBA players all time, and 4 months letter she staring in the face of a possible 10 years in harsh Russian prison at time when tensions are at an all time with the United States.
Prayers up for Brittney Griner, and her family. Hopefully Russia doesn’t try to make an example out of her.
