A Miami restaurant was exposed for charging a COVID-19 fee on customers’ bills. Someone at the unnamed restaurant showed a picture of their receipt which had “Covid Fee” hidden at the bottom.

The reasoning behind the Miami restaurant charging a COVID-19 fee is not known, but when we asked some restaurant owners what could of been the motivation they gave us a list of reasons.
The main reason the Miami restaurant could be charging a “Covid fee” is to offset the revenue loss of only being able to have 25% capacity due coronavirus stipulations. Also many restaurants have to use disposable paper menus, which cost more since they have to constantly make new menus. The Miami restaurant’s COVID-19 fee could be to offset the cost of those menus. Lastly the Covid fee could be to pay for the personal protective equipment employees have to wear such as facemasks and gloves.
Whatever the case may be, many people are angry that the Miami restaurant is making customers pay extra because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the flip side that “covid fee” might be the only reason the Miami restaurant is able to safely stay open without going bankrupt.
