Alleged Leaked Audio From Timberwolves’ Locker Room Reveals Kyle Anderson Insinuating Rudy Gobert Needs to be Traded
The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a crucial win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, but it came at a cost of internal turmoil and injury. Star center Rudy Gobert and forward Kyle Anderson got into a heated altercation during a timeout in the second quarter, which resulted in Gobert punching Anderson in the chest. Gobert was sent home at halftime and his status for the play-in tournament is uncertain.
Audio Leaked from Timberwolves Locker Room Featuring Kyle Anderson Talking about Rudy Gobert
Anderson stayed in the game and played well, but he was caught on audio after the game venting his frustration with Gobert and the Timberwolves staff. In the leaked audio, Anderson can be heard saying, “Y’all kiss his a** way too much telling me to focus. The f**k is wrong with y’all. Y’all got a decision to make this summer”. He was apparently referring to Gobert, who has been a dominant force for the Timberwolves this season, averaging 13.4 points, 11 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. However, he has also been a source of tension and controversy, as he has clashed with teammates and coaches over his role and attitude.
Anderson, who joined the Timberwolves from the Memphis Grizzlies, has been a solid contributor, averaging 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. In fact he’s arguably been more impactful than Gobert. He has also been praised for his defense and versatility, as he can play multiple positions and guard different types of players. He was clearly unhappy with how Gobert was treated by the Timberwolves staff, who he felt were too lenient and supportive of him despite his disruptive behavior.
The audio also suggests that Anderson wants Gobert to be traded this summer, as he believes that he is not a good fit for the team and its culture. He may not be alone in this opinion, as other teammates such as Anthony Edwards and Taurean Prince also showed their displeasure with Gobert during the incident. The Timberwolves may have to decide whether to keep Gobert or move on from him, as he has two years left on his contract.
The Timberwolves are currently in the eighth spot in the Western Conference, which means they will face the Los Angeles Lakers in a play-in game on Tuesday for a chance to secure the seventh seed and face the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs. However, they will be without Jaden McDaniels who broke his own hand punching a wall, and possibly also Rudy Gobert if he gets suspended. Lakers are probably licking their chops now.
