A tense moment during the Judo competition at Tokyo Olympics has people around the world outraged. Feminists are angry a male German Judo coach slapped female Martyna Trajdos, and shook her violently before her match with Szofi Ozbas.
In the footage the German coach slaps the woman twice in the face to pump her up before her fight. You could see he left red marks on Martyna Trajdos face. The German coach shook Martyna Trajdos violently before the two slaps as well. Was this wrong ethically, or is it okay since she appeared to be fine with it?
As you will see in the reactions below feminists think a man hitting a woman is wrong under any circumstances, even if it’s part of her routine to get emotionally pumped up.
What could really be happening here is clash of cultures. In Germany a male coach slapping a female athlete and shaking her in this fashion might be okay, but in a much more sensitive place like America it obviously would be crossing the line. Some people are also worried about what takes place when cameras aren’t rolling if the German Judo coach was comfortable doing that to Martyna Trajdos on Live TV.
At the end of the day the coach knows his players best, and it’s possible she likes him doing that to give her some extra edge before her matches. Some people have strange routines in sports, but this definitely looks bad on the surface though.
