Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden has been making headlines for his trade request, and his apparent dissatisfaction with the team’s management. However, he surprised everyone when he gave a random interview on Live News to a reporter from KHOU 11 on the football field at George Floyd’s High School (Jack Yates High School) in Houston.
James Harden Says Relationship with Daryl Morey is “Beyond Repair”
The interview, which lasted less than two minutes, was broadcasted live on KHOU 11’s Facebook page on Friday afternoon. The reporter, who identified himself, approached Harden who was on the high school football field. The reporter asked Harden about his relationship with former Rockets general manager and current 76ers president Daryl Morey.
Harden, gave a brief and direct answers, saying that his relationship with Morey is “beyond repair”, and that he is “just focusing on staying in shape” for the upcoming season.
The interview quickly went viral on social media, where people reacted with amusement, disbelief, and criticism. Some people called Harden the GOAT (greatest of all time) of quitting on teams, and trolling them while doing so.
Others said that Harden is the only NBA player who would do random interviews on Live News about quitting on a team and asking for a trade. Some also speculated that Harden was trying to send a message to the 76ers or to Morey by doing the interview at George Floyd’s High School, where Floyd graduated from in 1993.
The 76ers have not commented on the interview, but as you probably now that have backtracked on honoring Harden’s trade request. Subsequently, Harden called Morey a “liar” while doing an Adidas event in China. The team is scheduled to start training camp in the coming weeks, but it is unclear if Harden will report or not. The NBA season is set to begin on October 24.
