Here is Why People Think NBA Referee Sean Wright Intentionally Injured Trae Young’s Ankle in Game 3
Why was NBA referee Sean Wright smiling after injuring Trae Young’s ankle? On May 17 NBA selected 36 of the best referees they had to officiate games during the playoffs. Even when you have the best of the best, on rare occasions accidents still happen since the refs are close to the action on the basketball court. One of these rare accidents happened during Hawks vs Bucks Game 3, and it led to a conspiracy theory that NBA referee Sean Wright intentionally injured Trae Young’s ankle.
The play in question happened when Trae Young stepped on the NBA referees foot while trying to sprint up the court. He immediately went down in pain, and started glaring at the referee. Trae Young would eventually head back to the locker with a noticeable limp.
The conspiracy theories are fueled by NBA referee Sean Wright smiling after injuring Trae Young’s ankle. People are trying to decipher exactly what he was smiling about in a tense moment like that.
Around the 11 second mark of the video you can see the smile on Sean Wright’s face.
Although Trae Young would return to the game, the injury is significant because he has bad ankles. As you can see in the photo above he wears ankle braces similar to those that you see on Stephen Curry. With his ankle now more tender he could be more prone to spraining it for the remainder of this series.
Did NBA referee Sean Wright intentionally injure Trae Young’s ankle? Whether or not he did, seeing an NBA referee smiling after injuring Trae Young’s ankle during an Eastern Conference Finals just seems a bit odd. How crazy would it be if Sean Wright is a double agent for the Bucks.
